PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE

Be Safe, Be Kind, Be Proud and Have a GREAT Cardinal Day!

Principal Williams

Hello Carnelian Community!

As we enter a new month, we have much to celebrate and acknowledge! February is Black History Month and is a time to honor and celebrate the achievements, culture, and contributions of Black people throughout history. It serves as an opportunity to acknowledge the figures, events, and stories that have shaped not only Black communities but society as a whole. This month encourages reflection on the struggles for justice, equality, and civil rights, while also highlighting the rich diversity within Black heritage. It’s a reminder of the ongoing work needed to address systemic racism and promote a more inclusive and equitable world.

As we head into the first week of February, we also celebrate National School Counselors Week! Elementary school counselors play a crucial role in supporting the emotional, social, and academic development of young students. They provide a safe space for children to express themselves, address issues like bullying or anxiety, and help build essential life skills such as problem-solving and effective communication. Counselors also work with teachers and parents to create a supportive learning environment, identify students in need of additional resources, and promote positive mental health practices. By offering guidance and support at an early age, elementary school counselors help lay the foundation for a child's well-being and success in school and beyond. We are grateful for our counselor, Ms. Liliana Moreno, and the support she provides for our Cardinal students and community.

Our Cardinals have taken the I-Ready Diagnostic in January, which means we can take a look at the growth they have made in ELA and Math from August until now. Stay tuned as we highlight the grade levels, classes and students who have made the most growth in their ELA and Math performance! We are headed into crunch time, as our Cardinal students in grades 3-6 are getting ready for state testing (CAASPP) in April. The I-Ready data will help us determine which students are ready and which students still need support in achieving their grade level standards.

If you have not downloaded the Alta Loma School District app for your phone, please download it as soon as possible. You can select Carnelian Elementary as your school and view anything that is posted to the app. We want to communicate information out to our community as efficiently as we can - check us out on Instagram too! Our Carnelian PTA does an incredible job of posting information and updates on Instagram. We always encourage our community and our students to continue to "Be safe, Be Kind, Be Proud and have a GREAT Cardinal Day!"
